Jiu Jitsu is a grappling based martial art that utilizes leverage and positional superiority to make it possible for a smaller person to defend themselves against a larger or more athletic untrained opponent. At Apex Academy, we believe that Jiu Jitsu is multi-faceted; to train is to experience a multitude of benefits and opportunities. Some train simply to learn to defend themselves. Others have goals of weight loss or fitness. Some people even have the desire to test themselves in athletic Jiu Jitsu competitions. At Apex Academy, we have students from the age of 6 and up. As long as you’re willing to work hard and to learn, there is no such thing as “too old”. We also have a kids program with classes for both beginner and advanced practitioners!
No! This is not a requirement. At Apex, you are always welcome to take each class at your own pace. There is no “wrong” place to start. We simply try to make small steps of improvement in each session, so that one day, we will reach our ultimate goals.
Yes. While Jiu Jitsu is very physical by nature and all contact sports have inherent risk of injury, we try our very best to promote a culture of safety in our training room. We want to build a relationship of trust with our training partners and teammates, so that we can all train with longevity.
